When EcoActive was birthed it was because statistically there were too many children drowning on our beaches. But EcoActive has become more than an LTS( Learn to Swim) and water safety programme. The programme has a become so much deeper.
As we are interacting with the communities and working with school teachers and principals we are seeing how these programmes are positively impacting their lives.
Life in the community is not easy and kids are exposed to social ills. The play / learn/educate – the slogan which are the three pillars of EcoActive sums up what we like to achieve.
- Play – to develop social and cognitive skills
- Learn – to gain knowledge through training
- Educate – to uplift through social and moral instructions.
The LTS programme which is an extramural activity during school hours is to introduce children to aquatics as a sport, educating safety around water and help overcome fears.
The Friday swimming and holiday programmes( after school activities) are the heartbeat of the programme – The skills that taught here are to empower them to dream beyond their circumstances- we are training lifeguards, leaders athletes – “Sport has the power to change lives”.
We as an organization have reached out to other organizations in the communities, as we all have a common goal that is the upliftment of the communities.
This programme has not only change the lives of the children we worked with but I have grown as a person. ” No one is useless in this world, who lightens the burden of another.” Charles Dickens.
